divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived!

i had a wonderful sunday in london visiting the TOWER OF LONDON and got to indulge the nerd historian within by inundating penny with Little Known Facts from british history.

we took a beefeater tour, climbed endless winding staircases, took the conveyor belt past the crown jewels and dreamed of growing up within the walls (people really live there you know!!) but the best part was recreating my favourite tower of london beheading (lady jane grey - i love the tragedy of it all...) with the aid of an obliging young man with a novelty sword:
(surely the best part of the picture is the adidas swordsman in the background with his threatening gaze.. think he was annoyed i didn't ask him to do the top job. he didn't have the matching novelty helmet though...)

what an excellent day.

meanwhile, all my foodie dreams came true when penny and aj took me to a place where you can eat yum cha at night-time while drinking vino in a very cool, dimly lit bar. and it was called the drunken monkey. too good to be true..

I hope that the beefeater tour involves eating some beef, or I would be very disappointed. Preferably a nice hotpot of slow-cooked brisket.

Drunken Monkey sounds great! Did you eat any tripe? Joyce introduced me to tripe at Cafe Kowloon a few weeks ago and it was 1,000 times better than I had thought it was going to be. I don't understand why more Chinese restaurants don't serve Yum Cha all day, so I could eat Yum Cha tripe whenever I wanted to. Is there a good reason for this?

Definitely, we need one of those all night yum cha cafes right here in adelaide, not so sure if the poli would approve in CBR?! i think melbourne has it, why can't we in adelaide? uh, the back waters...

I agree, tripe is the bomb. Tres delicious...

I also love your reenactment of Jane Grey's beheading. You need to mount that picture on your wall.

no, i have never really been into the tripe, mostly because it is offal but that honeycomb pattern also puts me off..

linhen: unfortunately no beef was consumed during the tour.. but the duck spring rolls afterwards certainly made up for it!

audrey: i taught some kids that poem to help them remember it for their exams! i was going to show them the dance too but decided against it as they already think i'm NUTS

What on earth is this talk of tripe. Surely it is just purely that, tripe. You have all been eating "meat" pies for years and therefore been enjoying the diversity that all animals offer you. :)

I shop at a Chinese butcher here and it just allows me to eat the nicest foods ever. :) Go team go. Nice blogs Melly bum.
